In AD 2000, a market was established at Tallinn’s Raatuse Square, something that hadn’t been seen in this area for a long time. People gathered as they did in ancient times, following the traditions and customs of the Hanseatic City. Trade, socializing, and craftsmanship all took place in medieval style. This wonderful initiative was enjoyed by both the townspeople and the participants, and what started then has since become an integral part of Tallinn’s summer events.
Today, the activities have expanded to Niguliste Hill and other parts of the heart of the Old Town. Participants in the Medieval Days come from near and far—Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Hungary, Sweden, and other countries.
Medieval Days are also inseparably linked with spectacular tournaments—whether it’s fiery jousts with majestic knights or the best swordfighters leading the way, depending on the year. And of course, the Medieval Days are the perfect opportunity to learn more about your city and its history.
